Winter Ready Hair

You ever notice that your hair gets dry easily during the cooler months? The cold, dry air can seriously put a number on our hair. Curls and coils are the most prone to breakage when the hair is dry so it is important to get your hair winter ready!

Here are some tips to help you retain your length:

  1. Deep Condition more frequently. Deep conditioners are an absolute necessity during the winter time as they are a great way to restore moisture into the hair. They also help to smooth and soften the curls, making it easier to style. Thick, creamy conditioners like our Ucuuba & Aloe Conditioning Mask are superb at keeping the hair hydrated and restoring the poppage in the curls.

  2. Wear headgear. Wraps, beanies, and hats not only keep you looking stylish on those days when you just don't want to bother with your hair, they also help protect your hair from the cold elements.

  3. Use moisturizing shampoos. Shampoos can be a bit harsh to the hair and are known to strip the hair of much needed moisture. Using a moisturizing, non stripping shampoo such as our Organic African Black Shampoo, is a great way to ensure that your hair stays cleaned while staying moisturized.

  4. Put away the wash n gos and wear protective styles. During the winter, you want to avoid wearing your natural hair out as much as possible to prevent the cold air from dehydrating it. Now is the time to go for more protective styles such as twists, braids, buns, etc to keep the moisture in your hair.

  5. Hot oil treatments. What better way to protect your hair than with an oil treatment. Oil treatments not only soften the hair and revitalize it, it acts as a natural barrier between the air and your hair. Applying a daily oil to your ends also offers better protection against the weather. Our Organic Oil Elixir and Spicy Oil are great conditioning oils that can be used as a hot oil treatment and a daily oil for protection.

  6. Add a hair butter in your regimen. Hair butters are full of nutrients that help repair the hair's elasticity, promoting defined curls. They are also one of the best ways to seal in moisture during the winter. Our Organic Whipped Mango Butter is a definite go to as it absorbs quickly, protecting and nourishing the hair.

  7. Avoid using heat to style. Blow drying and flat ironing are common tools used to style the hair. However, they quickly dry out the hair, making it more prone to breakage during the winter months.

What are some changes you make in your hair regimen during the winter?
